How long do I have to complete the C&R PhT?
Candidates are given two hours twentyn minutes to complete the exam, tutorial.
When is the C&R PhT offered?
The C&R PhT is offered on-demand, year round in all 50 states.
What should I bring with me to the testing center?
All candidates are required to present a valid (not expired) form of one of the
following: passport, government-issued driver's license, government-issued
driving learner's permit, or U.S. Armed Forces identification. If you arrive at
the testing center without acceptable identification, you will not be allowed to
test and you will forfeit your examination fee. If you think you may have a

You
will be provided with an erasable board to serve as your scratch paper.
Why should I take the C&RPhT?
Pharmacy technicians who would like to work more effectively with pharmacists to
offer greater patient care and service should consider taking the AHCA exam to become
a C&RPhT. C&RPhTs report higher earnings and more promotion opportunities.

What does it mean to be certified?
Certification is the process by which a non-governmental association or agency
grants recognition to an individual who has met certain predetermined
qualifications specified by that agency. AHCA is responsible for the development
and implementation of policies related to national certification for pharmacy
technicians. AHCA certification is not a substitute for registration or
by your state board of pharmacy.
What happens once a person passes the C&R PhT?
If a candidate sits for and passes the C&R PhT, they may then use the designation
of “CPhT” or Certified Pharmacy Technician. To maintain certification, a CPhT is
required to obtain 20 hours of Continuing Education (CE) over the following two
years and every two years thereafter. View the recertification page for

What is AHCA's policy for retaking the exam after an unsuccessful attempt?
For example, if a candidate fails the examination (for the first or second time)
on May 1, 2009, the candidate can reapply immediately to retake the examination,
but his/her 90-day eligibility period would not begin until July 1 (60 days
after the failure date) and would extend through September 30, 2009. If a
candidate fails the examination for the third time on May 1, the candidate's
90-day eligibility period would not begin until November 1 (six months after the
third failure date).
Who runs the examination?
AHCA contracts with All Exams, as its computer-based testing vendor.
Will all candidates take the same C&R PhT?
No, each candidate will be presented with a unique set of test items, but all
candidates will be tested on the same subject matter based on
C&R PhT test
specifications.
Will one C&R PhT be easier than another?
No, the difficulty level of the C&R PhT does not change from test to test. The C&R PhT
is an accurate evaluation of each candidate's competency and understanding of
the skills necessary to be a CPhT.
When are the C&R PhT results available?
The official pass or fail result will appear on the computer screen in the
testing center immediately following the completion of a candidate’s
examination. The candidate will then receive a print out of test results. Scaled
scores and certificates, when applicable, are mailed to candidates on a rolling
basis within a few weeks of the testing date.
What is AHCA's policy for retaking the C&R PhT after an unsuccessful attempt?
Candidates who fail the C&R PhT can retake the C&R PhT up to three times. After three
retakes, candidates will need to appeal to AHCA. All requests will be reviewed
and approved on a case-by-case basis. For the first two retakes, candidates are
required to wait 60 days before taking the C&R PhT again. For the third retake,
candidates are required to wait six months before taking the C&R PhT again.
For example, if a candidate fails the C&R PhT (for the first or second time) on May
1, 2010, the candidate can reapply immediately to retake the C&R PhT, but his/her
90-day eligibility period would not begin until July 1, 2010 (60 days after the
failure date) and would extend through September 30, 2010. If a candidate fails
the C&R PhT for the third time on May 1, 2010, the candidate's 90-day eligibility

failure date). Candidates who pass the C&R PhT are not eligible to retake it except
under extraordinary circumstances.
Do I have to be an experienced computer user and be able to type to take the
computer-based exam?
No, the computerized testing system has been designed to be easy to use for
individuals with all levels of computer experience and typing skills. A tutorial
will be available to each candidate at the testing center prior to taking the

Once a C&R PhT appointment is scheduled, can it be changed or even canceled?
If you havew already scheduled your appointment
through Allexams, you are able to reschedule your appointment up until 24
hours before your appointment. Candidates may cancel or reschedule their
appointment online. Refunds will not
be given to candidates who miss their examination appointment or attempt to
cancel within the 24 hours of the examination appointment.
What if I am overseas serving in the U.S. Military?
Overseas military technicians and their qualifying dependents may register and
take the C&R PhT using Allexams portal.

My pharmacist/employer needs proof that I am certified. How can I prove that?

How do I replace my certificate and ID card?
Fill out a new card request form and
return to the PES office. The charge for a new certificate and ID card is $25.
What is the recertification process?
Recertification, or renewal of certification, is required every two years from
your certification date. A total of 20 hours in pharmacy-related CE must be
completed within the two-year period. At least one hour must be in the area of

Can my college courses count for CE hours?
Yes, you may use one college course during your two-year certification period.
The college course must be in either a Life Science (Chemistry, Biology,
Anatomy, etc.) or Math, and counts as 15 hours of CE. If you are audited, you
must submit a grade sheet or official transcript.
How do I become reinstated?
To complete the reinstatement process, you must complete 20 CE hours, including
two hours of pharmacy law. The application and fee may be submitted up to one
year after your expiration date. For example, if your recertification date is
March 31, 2010, you have until March 31, 2011, to submit your reinstatement
application.
I was recently married/divorced and need to change my name. What is the
procedure?
Fax documentation of your name change, such as a copy of the marriage
certificate or divorce decree to AHCA at (630) 847-0552. If you would like a new
certificate or ID card, please submit a new card request form and return to
AHCA.
